The Days in the Life of A Joe is a bar rock outfit. For the time being, I have a myspace account with 3 acoustic demos of our songs. check them out. http://www.myspace.com/119538292 I miss you, livejournal.... but I can't really stand to write about my life at length anymore. Current mood: Current music: Brusce Springsteen - Seeger Sessions. "George Bush is a Punk-Ass Chump" "Just Say No to Sex With Pro-Lifers" "Republicans For Voldemort" That is all. You heard me right, Jack. I'm putting a band together to play my very own songs, and I need someone who can play steady bass. This will not be complicated music, I like to think of it as a step above bar rock. I already have a kickass drummer, but I need somebody to fill out the low end. Influences? Well, sorta like Lucero, Bruce Springsteen, The Rusty Buckets, Jawbreaker, Osker, early Get-Up Kids. So, yeah, if you or somebody you know wants to play in a band that will hopefully start playing shows, (possibly out of town), and recording soon, shoot me an email. At least keep yr ear to the ground for me, buddy... Current mood: Current music: Coolzey. Okay, because Heather asked for it, here goes... The story of me opening for The New Amsterdams. So, I got a call from my friend Eric, saying perhaps he and I should go downtown and grab a drink or 2 before the show. Sounded good, so I agreed. I walked me and my guitar downtown, and met Eric in front of the Picador. There was an early show going on, so we decided to go to another bar. We had a few drinks, and eventually, I walked to the show alone. Cover was $10, so I figured none of my friends would show up. I saw Matt Pryor walking out the door, and said "hey" to him... he said "hi" back, without breaking stride... which seems odd... If I were on tour, and saw a nervous looking kid walking into the club I was playing at that night with a guitar, I would maybe stop and chat... but to each his own, I suppose. I went in and talked to Red, Doug, and Big John for a few minutes, while the other band was getting their gear together. After they were done, Big John and I went over, and I plugged in, and got ready to play. My friend Eli showed up right as I was getting ready to play, so I played a song called "Elementary, My Dear", which was written about an experiance at his 21st birthday party, and dedicated it to him. Pryor was not presant for my performance, unfortunatley. I played 4 songs, which clocked in just under the 20 minutes I was alloted. Not the best set I've ever played, but I think it was alright... I finished, and we chatting with Eli, and another friend of mine from work, who showed up after I was done. A few people came up to me and seemed to dig it, including the bassist from the New Amsterdams, who was a pretty cool guy. John Ralston played next, and was pretty good... I can see why Vagrant was so keen to sign him. His performance made me wonder what the album sounds like... After The John Ralston band was done, the New Ams set up and played. They were great... it was Matt playing acoustic and electic guitar and singing, and upright bass, and a small drum set, which I think is a really fun way for them to tour. At one point, I requested "Hey Ya!", and Matt goes, "C'mon, man... that is so 2003... I should be current, and cover that Gnarls Barkley song...". They kept taking requests, but for some reason, I couldn't come up with any songs titles besides the ones they had already played... drag. I met some rad kids at the show, and was hanging out with this kid named Adam, (I think...), and we were playing guitar outside of the Picador after the show. I saw Pryor and the other guys from the New Ams loading out, and thought it would be cute to play the opening riff from "Action & Action"... Pryor heard it, and laughed, saying, "Now try playing it in 3/4 time". Cute. Adam and went over to talk to them, as they were loading out, and Adam played "Stay on the Phone", (which they didn't play at the show), and Pryor took a break from loading to sing it with us. Good times. After that, I started walking home, and ran into these 3 kids who were in town from somewhere else in Iowa... I took a picture for them, and played a song for them. One of the girls played a songs, too. Good times. That's about it, I feel like Pryor was kind of annoyed by me, (seeing as I requested a few covers that he did, and was bugging him during loadout), but he was still cool to me. So it goes, I guess. Now I can say that I've opened for the New Amsterdams. Hopefully, I can play with more rad bands, seeing as the Picador is going to have bigger shows than Gabe's did. Anyways, what else is new? I moved into my new box in the Gaslight Village, which I really dig. I decided to leave one of my bands, Easy Tiger, to focus more on my other projects, including my own music, which I have been neglecting recently. Not too much new besides that. I'm going to see the Rusty Buckets, the Old Man, and Ed Grey tonight, looking forward to seeing the upstairs at the Picador. Voodoo Kitten practice was cancelled tonight, because I guess Coop got punched in the neck last night, and can't talk today. Drag. Okay, so that's that. Later. Current mood: Current music: Petit Mal - "Prettier At Night". All right, all you Iowa Citians... I know you've been asking yourselves, "I really want to go check out that place that Gabe's used to be, but I just don't know when to do it?" Well, here I am with an answer! Thursday August 21st (That's this Thursday!) Just Another Kid John Ralston THE NEW AMSTERDAMS!!!!!! That's right, I'll be playing a short set, opening for one of my favorite bands, The New Amsterdams. It'll be a perfect time for you to come see me play music, and check out this thing called The Picador. See you there, kidlins. In other news... I'm homeless! I just moved out of my aptment, and am waiting for my new place to become vancent. So I am back home with the folks. Goddamnit. And now, I leave or Nemesis Tattoo, so I can get part 2 of 3 of my jawsome new shoulder tattoo. Goodbye, I'll miss you. Al Fedeer Sane. Current mood: Current music: Pychosomatic. Wow, so what's been up? Shit, man.... I'm becoming a shut-in. To the point where I have to force myself to leave the apartment when I don't work. I live in fear of seeing people. I have no idea why... Trying my damndest to get out to the East Coast for end of July/beginning of August. Joe and Andy's movie, Watchtower podcast, and all my friends in the NYC. Good times. Recorded twice in the last week, both times with Mr. Andy Caffrey. The man does good work. Rite Near the Beach, Boiii recorded 6 songs, and played our first show. Ian was in town from Seattle, and was able to see some sensational reggae, performed by 5 crackers. www.myspace.com/ritenearthebeachboiii. At the RNTBB show, I opened with a solo set. I hadn't played solo in a while, but I ended up doing it at the last minute, and had a pretty good time. Got some complements and people seemed to enjoy it. I should do that more often. www.myspace.com/justanotherkid On a whim, I went to see Race To The Bottom play at the Hall Mall the other night. I really like this band, it reminds me of Rites of Spring. www.myspace.com/racetothebottom. Saw Nacho Lire with Ian. Funny movie. "Leggo my blouse" was my favorite line. I'm training sme dude on how to breakfast cook tomorrow. Hopefully, he will get the job, and I won't have to work at 4:30am 4 days a week anymore. Oh, we also recorded with Easy Tiger. No myspace for us yet, but the songs are sounding good. The JAK album needs mastering and packaging and stuff, but I havn't forgotten about it, but I doubt anyboy gives a shit anymore anyways... I watched the first 4 seasons of Smallville in about 6 weeks. I am more stoked for Superman Returns the you are, sucka. Also, I love Smallville, and want to marry Chloe Sullivan. I have no shame. I am becoming a video game nerd again. I am all about X-Men: Legends, and I finished this game called Indigo Prophesy in 2 days. It was a great game. Next up, X2: Wolverine's Revenge, and Shadow of the Colossus. I just want to go hide. I am uninspired, and don't want to associate with anybody. Fuck off. Also, Ian beat me in Putt Putt. AGAIN. Current mood: Current music: Coolzey. Columbine Video Game Draws Relatives' Ire Wed May 17, 11:22 AM DENVER - An online game based on the Columbine High School massacre is drawing criticism from relatives of those who died in the 1999 attack, including a father who says it trivializes the actions of the two teen killers. The game, Super Columbine Massacre RPG, was posted on a Web site last year, but is becoming more popular now. It draws on investigative material, including images of Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, who killed 12 classmates and a teacher before committing suicide. Players are told it is "ultimately up to you" how many people Harris and Klebold kill that day. Each time Harris and Klebold kill someone in the game, a dialogue box pops up that says: "Another victory for the Trench Coat Mafia." The game also includes crime scene photos of the killers and images of students running and crying, though it does not have photos of any victims. "We live in a culture of death, so it doesn't surprise me that this stuff has become so commonplace," said Brian Rohrbough, whose son, Daniel, was among those slain that day. "It disgusts me. You trivialize the actions of two murderers and the lives of the innocent." The site's creator, who identified himself in an e-mail interview only by the name "Columbin," told the Rocky Mountain News he wanted to make something that would "promote a real dialogue on the subject of school shootings." He said he was inspired to make the game because he was in Colorado at the time of the attack. "I was a bullied kid. I didn't fit in, and I was surrounded by a culture of elitism as espoused by our school's athletes." He added that he considered the killers, at times, "very thoughtful, sensitive and intelligent young men." Richard Castaldo, who was paralyzed from the chest down in the attack, played the game after reading about it on a gaming Web site. He said it reminded him of the 2003 film "Elephant," which follows students and others on the day of a school massacre without assigning reasons or blame for the bloodshed. "It didn't make me mad, just kind of confused me," he said. "Parts of it were difficult to play through, but overall, I get the feeling it might even be helpful in some ways. I don't think it's bad to discuss." A random list of random crap going on with a random boy, (me). I haven't been able to get the last few Watchtower podcasts because of a dumb computer glitch. What have I missed? Latly, when I'm making breakfast at the Cottage, I have fantasies of visiting the bros in Maryland, and making them all breakfast. It's one of those little things that gets me through the day. "Hey, Jonesy. You want some more waffles?" Samb recorded the last Voodoo Kitten practice. We got good versions of "Stuck", "Angry Planet", "Suicide Hero", and "Do Without". Hopefully Coop will put them up on the myspace site, (www.myspace.com/voodookittenrocks) soon, because I want y'all to hear them. We played a Voodoo Kitten show at the Hall Mall last night, at the first annual "What A Load Of Craft" showcase. Good times, lots of art, lots of rad people, and lots of great music. Mr. Ross Myer won a $100 gift certificate to Nemesis... somebody yelled "It's a conspiracy!". Made me laugh. About once a year this happens... a number of bands I like released new cd's. In honer of the Watchtower, I will rank them. NoFX - "Wolves in Wolves Clothing" Ach Yah. With their last album the alienated fans by putting out an album full of anti-republican/Bush songs, and with this one they alienate even more fans by releasing an album full of anti cristian/religion songs. When did NoFX start catering to Joe Kapp? Saves The Day - "Sound The Alarm" Ach Yah. I love this album. So far it's my favorite of the year. Such great songwriting, and I really like the guy they got to replace Eban D'mico on bass. Taking Back Sunday - "Louder Now" Ach Niche. I dunno about this album. I like "Liar (It Takes One To Know One)", and "MakeDamnSure", but what I realized about this band is I will never like any of their other work as much as I like "Tell All Your Friends". So much young angst and energy in that record, and it seems to me like all their work after that will be so much calmer and less passionate. Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - "Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzva" Ach Yah. I had heard that it was a live record from a kid's Bar Mitzva, and I thought it was some sort of joke or setup. I was wrong. Me First actually played at a kid's Bar Mitzva. It's weird and fun. I need to get into more metal music. I got the Pantera best of, and am feeling very meh about it. Suggest some good metal for me to get into. I am tired alot recently. I work 8 shifts a week, and it's starting to take a toll on my body. I need a vacation............. I miss cuddling. I'm really wanting to write more songs to sing in Easy Tiger and the DownBoys. I have a few ideas, but I'm having a hard time writing songs. Hey, Tim Kuszka. Why are we not better friends? Kapp out. Current mood: Current music: The Ventures. A random list of crap going on with me... not in the mood for a "top whatever" list. Louie and P-teK want to start a podcast. I wanna do it, but I also don't want to just rip off Watchtower. I suppose the 3 of us have different intrests, though. Speaking of Watchtower... I thought the "Trejo" joke was funny. Am I the only one? www.myspace.com/petitmal go listen to ther new demos. Amazing. Pop songs played by a metal band. In fact, just go check out all the bands on my top 8. They are all great. The only thing that gets me excited musically these days is Iowa City music. My new top 8 reflects that. Things in my life are becoming clearer, and clearer every day. It's nice. Cottage is wearing me down, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel... Verde is a job. My "knife skills" are becoming awesome. Heh heh... "knife skills" makes me laugh every time I say it. Louie seems to be really into Super Amigos! He's got big plans for it. 2006 is going to be a good year for local music. Speaking of Louie and the label, he's taken it upon himself to be my "taskmaster", and harang me to write at least one song a week, until I have enough for an album, then record it. Rock songs, mind you. I'm hoping it'll come out good. First Easy Tiger and the DownBoys show on the 27th! I am really excited. I think we're gonna make an impression. Apparantly Dave Zollo wants us to play a few shows with him in the next few months. Rad. The folks are going out of town for a week, so I'll be housesitting. Expect my AIM to be on all week if you need me. Justin saw the Alkaline Trio play a show in a converted cathedral in NYC. Apprantly they played "Goddamnit" in it's entirety, then an acoustic set, then an elecric set. 2 hour show. Damn, son. I wish I still lived in NYC sometimes. "Resident Evil 4" is as good as everybody says. I usually hate the games, but this one is really great. I'm re-watching season 7 of "Buffy". I actually am re-watching the entire series, and alternating with "Angel" season by season, (Buffy 4, Angel 1, Buffy 5, Angel 2, etc.) So I'm almost done with the whole thing. I'm taking breaks for "Arrested Development". What an amazing show that is... so funny. Yes, I am a TV on DVD geek. Louie Doerge, I blame you. I really need a vacation away from Iowa. Away from the midwest, if possible. I want to go out east and see all my peeps in NYC and Maryland. Don't I say that every time I post a blog? Well, I mean it every time. Is the new Saves The Day album any good? I've been meaning to buy it, but there are no cd stores in town that stock new albums, ever since Sam Goody shut down. Speaking of shutting down, I noticed that the cereal 'restaurant' closed down already, to be replaced with... you guessed it, another fucking coffeeshop. Blargh. I hope this thing is coherant... I'm just realizing I am kind of exhausted. I really want to make a girl an omelet in the morning. I know a few people that had some tornado damage. My heart goes out to them. Man, who misses Jacob Swiss like I'm missing Jacob Swiss? I have never heard a songle song by Panic! At The Disco. However, I have read alot about them. Are they any good? When's that crucial-looking Zella Mayzell video coming out? My brother has taken to breaking into my apartment when he wants something. Godspeed, brave soldier. Okay that's enough. Current mood: Current music: The Miracles of God - "You'd Better Shake That Ass". Yo. There's a show at Gabe's Oasis on sunday. Voodoo Kitten Petit Mal Droids Attack Below the Sound Come on out, support yr local scene, (as cliched as it is, it's still important...) Rock out. Have some fun. You might even get lucky... 9pm doors. $5 cover. See you there, champ. Also, I play bass in Voodoo Kitten... you might see me do some bellowing, too. But only if you are good, and take 3 more bites. Current mood: Current music: Ozma - "Battlescars". |
